I’ve wanted to make one of these for a long time – the text says (in Tibetan)
Aum mane padme hum
which is the mantra of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. In Tibet, and places where there are big Tibetan communities, you will often see stones like this set by paths, or on public display – as they are one way of sharing the benefits of this mantra with all beings.
It was a hard stone, so it ended up looking good, but was very hard work to cut in relief.
