I’m working on a series of carvings from different religious and spiritual traditions that express the idea of the divine interpenetrating nature. So far, I’ve completed two pieces –
The first is a quotation from the Qur’an – And We have already created Man and know what his soul whispers to him, and we are closer to him than his jugular vein. (Al Qaf 50 16)
and the second is a quote from the Gospel of Thomas (this is a gnostic gospel from the Nag Hammadi library, which didn’t make it into the canon of the bible). This is a ‘logion’ (a saying of Jesus) – 77b.
I also cut this quote from Thales of Miletus – I haven’t done much raised lettering, but this took a while ( I love the way that it ended up looking like a 70’s prog rock album cover).
