Over the last couple of years, we’ve had a number of friends and family get married – and I’ve been making stones as wedding gifts.
The most recent one, for a colleague, is back to lovely black slate – with gilding, spray paint, and then oiled.
I had a lovely piece of white marble from a local reclamation yard (originally under a Victorian bath, but broken on extraction), and sawed it up into small pieces. It was a joy to cut, although needed something to pick the letters out – I could even, with some judicious clamping, cut into the thickness of the surrounding edges.
